PAID MILITARY LEAVE – 30 days per fiscal year of full pay and benefits for SFPD personnel called to active duty military service or training. SFPD personnel called to active duty military service or training exceeding 30 days per fiscal year receive supplemental pay to compensate for difference in military pay vs SFPD pay.
Purchase Program is a voluntary program that allows officers who served in the military to purchase service credit in their miscellaneous pension plan.* The service credit you purchase will add to your total years of service credit under the miscellaneous pension plan.
*Candidates hired by the San Francisco Police Department as sworn police officers accrue years of service under the miscellaneous pension plan under their time at the academy. Upon graduation of the academy and entry into the field training program and beyond as a sworn police officer, SFPD sworn personnel accrue service in a police pension plan.
Veteran points are normally given to candidates who have served in the military. If you have proof of military service via a DD214, you may qualify to have additional veterans points added to your Eligibility List ranking.
